Several Fox News hosts heaped praise on former First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, describing it as “amazing,” “terrific,” and the best speech of the night.
After Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Michelle Obama, and former President Barack Obama all delivered speeches at the DNC in Chicago on Tuesday evening, Fox News host Bret Baier weighed in, saying, “Barack Obama, essentially showing this crowd why he is still such a star inside the Democratic Party, but perhaps, perhaps overshadowed by his wife, the former First Lady Michelle Obama, who had an amazing speech that got this crowd on their feet.”
Baier added, “We shouldn’t overlook the speech before that. Doug Emhoff, the second gentleman, was really, really personable, really engaging. It showed Kamala Harris, the vice president, in a personal light that was funny.”
Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume agreed, saying, “I think it was a night of very good speeches. Emhoff, I think, was excellent, charming, affecting. Barack Obama was his old self, his familiar self with a superb sense of timing and cadence.”
Hume continued:
I think the speech of the night was Michelle Obama. She is an extraordinarily impressive woman, former first lady of the United States, you can see why members of the Democratic Party always kind of hope that maybe she’d step in and run for president after him in any of these past several cycles. It does however, I have to say this, get a little rich when she starts talking about hope.
He argued, “I can’t imagine why somebody who has had the life she’s had – a product of Princeton and Harvard Law School, an elite law firm, the first lady of the United States with a magnificent house on Martha’s Vineyard worth about $12 million and another one going up in Hawaii – why it is that she’s so hopeless all the time and has to have her hope revived.”
However, the Fox News analyst concluded, “Apart from that, I thought she was just terrific.”
Fox News host Dana Perino also praised Obama and Emhoff’s speeches.
“I did think that the Emhoff speech was very special because every woman would imagine if their husband could give a speech about them like that, it would be very moving,” she said. “So the romance is alive.”
Perino continued, “And you have another example of Michelle Obama and Barack Obama, great partnership, and for this crowd and this room, it was a beautiful speech, and again, the oratory skills are incredible.”
Harold Ford Jr., a rotating co-host for Fox News’ The Five, said Emhoff “humanized his wife tonight” with his personal speech about Vice President Harris, before agreeing with his colleagues that “Michelle Obama was the best” speech of the evening.
