Karl Rove Predicts Election Will Come Down to Whether Trump Can Control Himself: ‘She Can’t Win It, But He Can Lose It’

Karl Rove predicted that the presidential election would come down to whether Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump can control himself and focus on the issues during an appearance on Fox Business Network on Thursday.

Host Neil Cavuto brought up the topic by musing that “a lot depends on Donald Trump too, right?”

“I mean, if he sticks to the issues, which lately maybe he’s been listening to you Karl, he seems to have, but he he still gets into the name-calling ,” he continued. “And he often says that he only does that because the other side calls him names, but I actually keep track of the name-calling. And he leads by a lot with the name-calling, including some of the, you know, I don’t know that he would have put, the childish name calling. And he can’t stop that. Now, I know his base loves it, I get that, but it — I don’t think it helps him, you know, to reach beyond that. But your thoughts?”

“Yeah, I was talking to a rather wise Democrat the other day who said to me, ‘She [ Kamala Harris ] can’t win it, but he can lose it.’ And I think that’s right,” replied Rove . “If you take a look at it, the three big issues in the race, inflation, economy and the border, he has a big advantage in the polls on. But rather than talking about the differences between the two of them on those issues in a concrete way, so the people understand that she’s responsible for the mess and offering a positive solution to those three problems for what he’s going to do. he spends his time — he’ll touch on that. But then he spends a lot of time saying the greatest hits, which the media sort of, you know, become inured to, and then saying weird stuff.”

“And given a choice between taking a little bit out of what he says about how she’s failed and he’s got an answer, they would rather jump on the weird stuff, and they do. So unless he gets more disciplined, I think that the Democrats’ strategist I talked to had it right. She may not be able to win it, but he could certainly lose it,” concluded Rove.

“They seem to know inherently that if they zing him — they don’t even have to say, call him names, but that he’ll respond, you know, tenfold and they’ve got what they want, right?” offered Cavuto.

“Right. Oh yeah, absolutely. He’s taking it too personally. We want him to rise above it is what the American people are saying. They want both sides to rise above it. But his is so continuing and so visible and so pointed and personal that he looks like he’s doing it more than they’re doing it to him,” answered Rove.
