Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto apologized to viewers on Thursday after an interview with Kamala Harris senior adviser Gene Sperling devolved into a nonstop shouting match.

After Cavuto grilled him about inflation and the cost of living crisis under the Biden-Harris administration, Sperling pinned some of the blame on major corporations price-gouging consumers and “exploiting prices.”

“But that is not happening. Gene, Gene, it’s not happening,” protested Cavuto, as the two men spoke over each other. “To blame it on the food companies– I know, Gene, but on the food thing, you know it’s a silly argument. You know it’s wrong, right?”

“Neil, thank you, but you just made up stuff. You didn’t listen to the words she said,” shot back Sperling, as the two continued to talk over one another. “Neil, quit saying false things.”

As the shouting match continued, Cavuto questioned:

Gene, do you or the administration take any blame? Do you take any blame, Gene? Gene, I love you dearly, but I just think it’s a simple question. I have no agenda here. The right and the left, they both hate me, so let’s settle that. Let me ask you this, is it possible that this administration should take some blame for the double-digit run-up in food prices alone? Any blame at all? Do you accept any blame at all?

“No,” replied Sperling. “I think overwhelmingly what people are seeing is that the United States got through the recovery with greater jobs, greater growth. The global inflation that you talked about happened everywhere in the world and the United States is one of the places it’s coming down.”

Cavuto mocked, “You guys did nothing wrong. Nothing wrong. And you’re right, inflation has come down dramatically from those high levels in 2022, but when it did go up, and it did spike double digits, and food prices rose to the degree they did, do you think your spending had anything at all to do with that?”

Sperling replied, “I do not think it was a significant factor”

Shouting over each other yet again, Sperling accused Cavuto of putting words in Harris’s mouth, prompting Cavuto to interrupt, “Gene, I wish we had more time… We saved a lot of time talking over each other.”

As he cut off Sperling’s camera, Cavuto told viewers, “Sorry about that, America, but sometimes I just wanna get simple answers.”
