Uncommitted Voters on MSNBC Rip Kamala Harris’s DNC Speech Over Israel: ‘You Are Bombing Our Families with Our Money!’

Uncommitted voters speaking to MSNBC expressed outrage over Vice President Kamala Harris’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, blasting her for not calling for a “permanent ceasefire” in the Israel-Hamas war.

MSNBC national correspondent Yasmin Vossoughian spoke to a group of five voters in Dearborn, Michigan after watching the DNC event. Four of the five were “uncommitted” voters while one had voted for President Joe Biden in a primary and plans to vote for Harris in November.

More than 100,000 Michigan Democrats voted “uncommitted” in the state primary where Biden was running as a form of protest against his support of Israel as the country continues to strike Gaza in an effort to eliminate the terror group Hamas. Biden and his administration have criticized the thousands of civilian deaths in Gaza, but ultimately backed Israel’s right to defend itself after they were attacked on Oct. 7 and more than 1,000 were killed and hundreds were kidnapped.

One voter told Vossoughian that Harris appeared to “downplay” what has been happening in Gaza.

“She walked the line. First, she talked about Israel and how October 7 was horrible. Yeah, it was horrible, but it felt like she kind of downplayed what’s been going on the last 10 months,” he said.

Another voter blasted Harris for not using her speech to call for a “permanent ceasefire.”

“In the Arab and Muslim community, we’ve been voting for Democrats a long time, we’ve hosted Democrats in our homes, we’ve donated to them, we’ve fundraised for them, we’ve knocked on doors for them, but at this point our money is going to our families overseas who are dying every single day,” he said.

In her Thursday night speech, Harris said did express support for a ceasefire. “With respect to the war in Gaza,” she said, “President Biden and I are working around the clock, because now is the time to get a hostage deal and a ceasefire deal done.”

“What has happened in Gaza over the past 10 months is devastating,” Harris continued. “So many innocent lives lost. Desperate, hungry people fleeing for safety over and over again. The scale of suffering is heartbreaking. President Biden and I are working to end this war such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination.”

A female voter was also outraged by the speech, arguing it is not enough to win people over.

“You’re bombing our families with our money and just one good speech is going to win us over again? I don’t think so,” she said.

The Michigan voter added that the pitch by Democrats that voting for Harris to keep former President Donald Trump from the White House is one she completely rejects.

“That’s on them,” she said. “That’s not on us.”
