Republican Governor Swears Trump Is About to ‘Pivot’ to Being More Disciplined

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu insisted that former President Donald Trump is about to “pivot” to being more disciplined on the campaign trail.

Sununu endorsed Nikki Haley in the GOP primary and said Trump could not win in November if criminally convicted. With Trump winning the primary and having been found guilty of falsifying business records in New York, Sununu has walked back that claim and thrown his support behind the former president.

Appearing on Friday’s edition of The Source on CNN, Sununu was asked about Trump’s recent comments regarding Georgia Governor Brian Kemp . Trump has long used Kemp as a punching bag after the governor contradicted Trump by noting that Joe Biden’s 2020 election win in the state was valid. The former president falsely claims the election was rigged in Georgia and a handful of other states he lost. But in 2022, Kemp handily defeated a Trump-backed primary challenger.

Despite the attacks on Kemp, the governor has remained steadfast in his support of Trump, who thanked the governor “for all of your help and support in Georgia” in a social media post on Thursday.

Host Kaitlan Collins asked Sununu about Trump’s change of tune regarding Kemp and wondered if it is because like in other swing states, Trump is running tight with Vice President Kamala Harris .

“No one can tell Donald Trump what to do and what to say,” Sununu said. “But one thing he cares about – and I’ve sat with him many times – all he wants to talk about is his poll numbers. He actually reads the polls. He responds to them and that type of feedback response so to say, can get him to pivot because he does want to win. There’s no question about that. But when he sees the numbers slipping, that’s what ultimately drives him.”

Sununu added that the poll numbers are likely to get Trump “to change his traditional habits, pivot a little bit, hopefully  pivot enough to win these swing states.”

He concluded, “And you’re already seeing signs of it.”

A couple of hours before Sununu appeared on CNN, Trump held a rally in which he mocked Harris repeatedly thanking the Democratic convention crowd. The former president also called a Democratic Senate candidate “a friggi’n loser.”
