Daily Show’s Jon Stewart Roasts Democrats for DNC Hypocrisy and Lack of Palestinian American Speakers

The Daily Show host Jon Stewart roasted Democrats for a lack of Palestinian American speakers at the Democratic National Convention, as well as other points from Chicago event that didn’t quite add up for the comedian.

After the close of the DNC on Friday, Stewart called the Democratic Party “diverse and often contradictory,” noting that the convention features both union leaders and CEOs, as well as “lifelong” Republicans.

“They had a guy yelling, ‘screw the billionaires,’ followed immediately by…a very happy billionaire!'” Stewart said next to photos of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D).

Both Sanders and Pritzker spoke at the convention, and the governor did reference at one point his billionaire status .

“It’s all okay if it’s our billionaire!” Stewart sarcastically said.

He then showed an image of Democratic Party vice presidential nominee Tim Walz .

“They had guys making fun of people going to Yale…and a bunch of people who went to Yale,” Stewart said, then splitting the image of Walz with a number of Yale graduates at the convention, including Hillary Clinton .

Stewart took a dig at former President Bill Clinton too, showing an image of Vice President Kamala Harris next to him.

“The Democrats had people who prosecuted sexual predators and —” Stewart said going silent at Clinton’s image.

The comedian called out the party for its lack of Palestinian American speakers who could speak about the ongoing strikes in Gaza and protests against Israel’s handling of its war with Hamas. Stewart said Democrats were “hitting all the right notes” to drum up support for their new ticket and thousands of civilian deaths in an ongoing war wouldn’t fit the convention’s theme of “joy.”

“They had Black Americans! Hispanic Americans! Asian Americans! Gay Americans! Jewish Americans! Palestinian Americ-oh…to be fair, it would only four nights, eight hours a night. Really it’s best not to think about the consequences of our actions over there, especially given the theme of the week,” Stewart said, appearing next to a “page not found” graphic.

Organizers behind the Uncommitted movement — which saw thousands cast protest votes in Democratic primaries — said they were denied a speaking slot after weeks of negotiations.
