Carville Says Trump ‘Knows He’s In Deep Trouble’ — Kamala Harris ‘The Hot Item’ And It’s ‘Driving Him Crazy’

Outspoken Democratic strategist James Carville told New Republic staff writer and podcast host Greg Sargent that former President Donald Trump “knows he’s in deep trouble” — and it’s “driving him crazy” that Vice President Kamala Harris has become “the hot item” with the media.

Carville has been making the rounds as the campaign between Trump and Harris heats up. Since taking over the ticket from President Joe Biden, the VP has raised an astounding $540 million , headlined a convention that clobbered Trump’s in the ratings, and been the subject of sustained media and public buzz.

On Tuesday’s edition of Greg Sargent’s The Daily Blast podcast, Carville told the host he believes Trump is aware that Harris is a huge threat — and her success is playing to long-held insecurities:

GREG SARGENT: So let me ask you this. You just said that the Trump campaign is dazed, confused. Off balance. Are– is is Trump in trouble? And does he know that?

JAMES CARVILLE: Yes and yes! He has a, have, like, shark-like survival instinct. And he knows that he’s not having the same effect as he used to.

He knows that Harris has become what he’s always wanted to be, is the kind of hot item. He (inaudible) it, and he’s not the new kid on the block anymore, and he’s struggling to regain that.

But but he like I say he has very primitive survival skills. I think this is something that, and it’s driving him crazy.

GREG SARGENT: Right. I think what you’re saying is he’s in deep, in deep trouble and is aware of it.

JAMES CARVILLE: He is, he is, and he’s aware of it. And now how he gets out of it. Or, or, can he get out of it? I don’t know.

GREG SARGENT: James, thanks so much for coming on with us today.
