CNN’s Scott Jennings Rains on His Own Network’s Parade, Rips Harris for Including Walz in CNN’s Big Exclusive: ‘Incredibly Weak, Weak Sauce’

CNN senior commentator Scott Jennings called Vice President Kamala Harris’s upcoming interview with his network “weak sauce” for including her running mate Tim Walz.

Jennings made clear on Tuesday that he has “confidence” in his network and Dana Bash to pull off the big exclusive, but criticized Harris’s decision to do a joint interview before a solo sit down. There has been mounting pressure on Harris as she has not conducted a traditional media interview since moving to the top of the Democratic Party ticket.

Anderson Cooper asked Jennings on Tuesday whether finally scheduling an interview would “blunt” the attacks from Republicans and critics over a lack of media appearances.

“Look, I have great confidence in Dana and CNN to do this. I think it’s incredibly weak, weak sauce to show up with your running mate,” Jennings said.

Jennings argued the interview will likely not change many minds and will only fuel criticism from Republicans.

“I think the hand-wringing and the gyrations over this over the last month show a troubling lack of confidence in her political ability, which also makes you wonder as a voter, what kind of president would you be if this kind of a small-time decision, can we do an interview or not, what does that look like for your decision-making process, and so on?” he said. “So, yes, I think Republicans are gonna think it’s pretty weak to show up with effectively someone to take up half the time.”

CNN announced their Harris/Walz interview will air at 9 p.m. on Thursday and be conducted by Bash as the candidates embark on a bus tour through Georgia.
