‘Never Gonna Happen!’ CNBC Anchor Rolls His Eyes and Laughs at Harris Economic Adviser Over Capital Gains Policy

CNBC host Joe Kernen rolled his eyes and laughed when a Kamala Harris economic adviser tried to argue in favor of her unrealized capital gains tax policy.

Last week, the Harris campaign announced the vice president’s support for a new tax on unrealized capital gains, which would only apply to individuals with at least $100 million who are not paying at least a 25% tax on their annual income.

During Wednesday’s edition of Squawk Box, fellow host Rebecca Quick pressed Bharat Rama on the policy by claiming “taxing unrealized gains just doesn’t seem fair in any sense of the word” adding that “all you’re doing is pulling forward the taxes that would be paid later when someone actually sells the stock.”

“I think that this reaction to unrealized gains is a little funny, given that I bet that the majority of people watching right now are already paying a tax on unrealized gains. It’s called a property tax,” Rama responded. Kernen then interrupted Rama to claim that the policy is “probably unconstitutional” and is “never gonna happen.”

RAMA: Well, look, you’re arguing that this is some sort of foreign concept that’s completely unknown-

KERNEN: It’s probably unconstitutional. It’s probably unconstitutional. And it was never in anyone’s intent to-

QUICK: It’s not income. It’s not an income tax.

KERNEN: And it’s never going to happen, probably. Not well, I’m not going to say my lifetime.

    QUICK: I wouldn’t say that.

    KERNEN: Not in Becky’s lifetime!
