Standup comedian Nikki Glaser was announced as the host of the 82nd Annual Golden Globes ceremony that will air in January 2025.

Glaser, who is famous for her brutal roast performances, said in a statement that she appreciated the chance to emulate past hosts such as Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Ricky Gervais who “have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear.” She went on to say that she hoped to “continue in that time-honored tradition (that might also get me canceled).”

Here is her full statement, via The Hollywood Reporter:

I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes. It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage). The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God I hope so.) It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes).

Some of my favorite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina [Fey], Amy [Poehler] or Ricky [Gervais] have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear. I just hope to continue in that time-honored tradition (that might also get me canceled). This is truly a dream job. Plus, I no longer have to feel guilty for every TV show and movie I’ve binged over the past year. It was all worth it. (Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season Four will be nominated, right?).

The choice of Glaser will follow two years of hosts who were not well-received. Jerrod Carmichael hosted in 2023 and kicked off the show with a brutally honest monologue about how he ended up hosting the show: “I’ll tell you why I’m here. I’m here ’cause I’m Black.” He was followed by Jo Koy, who bombed with the audience during his hosting segments and blamed the show’s writers (while he was bombing).

Five-time host Gervais, cited by Glaser, hosted for the last time in 2020 and delivered an expletive-filled monologue that targeted several celebrities in the audience, saying: “You’ll be pleased to know this is the last time I’m hosting the Golden Globe Awards. I don’t care anymore. I never did.”

Glaser is also no stranger to ruffling feathers as a comedian; her performance at The Roast of Tom Brady this past spring made waves with several NFL players, Kevin Hart, and the reluctant roastee, Tom Brady. She joked about his repeated attempts at retiring from the league: “I get it. It’s hard to walk away from something that’s not your pregnant girlfriend.”
