MSNBC’s Chris Hayes blasted vice presidential candidate JD Vance over the senator’s version of events at Arlington National Cemetery that has landed former President Donald Trump in hot water.

On Monday, Trump visited the hallowed grounds where two unnamed Trump campaign officials engaged in a verbal and physical altercation with a cemetery worker. At issue was the campaign’s filming in Section 60 where recent U.S. service members who have recently died are buried. Filming and photography related for political campaign purposes are prohibited in that area.

Nevertheless, the Trump campaign filmed away as the former president commemorated the deaths of 13 U.S. soldiers killed during the withdrawal from Afghanistan three years ago. Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung alleged that the cemetery worker was “clearly suffering from a mental health episode.”

On Wednesday’s All In on MSNBC, Hayes noted that federal law prohibits election-related activities in Army National Military Cemeteries. The host aired a clip of Vance speaking earlier in the day dismissing the idea that Trump’s appearance was campaign-related.”

Hayes reacted incredulously to the last line.

“Oh! Oh, there happened to be a camera there,” he said. “How stupid do you think we are? He was just called to provide emotional support – a thing he does all the time away from the cameras. And oh, look at that. A camera.”

The host then pointed to a video Trump posted on his TikTok account just hours after visiting Arlington.

“We lost 13 great, great people,” Trump said in the video as footage of him in the cemetery played. “What a horrible day it was. We didn’t lose one person in 18 months. And then they took over that disaster the leaving of Afghanistan.”

“That is a campaign ad film in Arlington, obviously,” Hayes reacted. “Also, we didn’t lose one person in 18 months. Dozens of U.S. service members died in action under Donald Trump. That’s been erased. No ceremony for them. No ads.”
