‘Un-American! Un-American!’ Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary Fumes Over Kamala Harris’s Tax Plan

Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary fumed over Vice President Kamala Harris’s support of a capital gains tax, declaring it to be “un-American.”

O’Leary, who was born in Canada, joined Fox Business on Wednesday and argued he’s “okay” with Harris winning the presidency in November, so long as she actually explains some of her policies and starts doing live interviews. Her first interview since moving to the top of the Democratic Party ticket is on Thursday evening on CNN.

O’Leary got especially heated when discussing Harris’s proposal for a capital gains tax, which has faced some backlash . The tax on gains in capital, according to Harris’s campaign, would apply to individuals on people with more than $100 million.

Such plans have been tried before and always fail because they are not pragmatic, O’Leary argued.

The venture capitalist said:

Of all the suggestions I’ve heard on taxation, I find that the most offensive because just think about America. 62% of jobs are created by my people, small businesses that have between five and 500 employees. We watch the value of our companies go up each year even though we’re struggling to keep them going with all the regulatory environment and all the competition, but we do it. And then all of a sudden we get a tax bill. Let’s say our business went from being worth $10 million to $20 million over five years. Where am I going to come up with three, four million dollars cash that I don’t even have, that I never had?

O’Leary argued again Harris needs to be more open to media interviews to answer questions about such policies, especially in an election where likely only thousands of people in a few states will determine the winner.

There is no way, however, that she’ll be convincing O’Leary capital gains taxes are a good idea.

“That just makes no sense whatsoever,” he said. “That’s just so un-American. It’s un-American! Un-American!”
