Morning Joe Crew Rips Trump Team ‘Escalation’ Of Arlington Cemetery Fracas In ‘Typical Trump Fashion’

Morning Joe co-host Sam Stein blasted the Trump campaign for its “escalation” of the Arlington National Cemetery scandal, which he said could have been a “non-story” but officials decided to “fight it through” and opt for “escalation” in “typical Trump fashion.”

The take comes as fallout continues days after former President Donald Trump attended the site to mark the anniversary of the 2021 Kabul airport terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. military personnel during the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

During the visit an altercation occurred with a cemetery employee who was pushed aside as she attempted to prevent aides taking photographs at the site in contravention of the law. Afterward the Trump campaign staff went on the attack and berated the Arlington Cemetery employee as “mentally ill” and a “disgrace” to the “hollowed [sic]” military burial site. The criticism resulted in the US Army issuing a statement on Thursday in defense of the employee’s conduct.

On Friday’s Morning Joe, Stein ripped into the Trump campaign’s reaction to the incident.

Look, as a grand matter, this is the problem, I think, which is that there are very few places that are… that we try to keep immune from partisan politics. This place is now being sullied by the Trump campaign because of their insistence that this person, this official, was in the wrong. You could have de-escalated. It could have been a relatively non-story. But in typical Trump fashion, they chose to just, you know, fight it through. Here we are.
