Chris Cuomo revealed to podcaster Patrick Bet-David what exactly led up to his NewsNation rant eviscerating the “game of money” at play at the Democratic National Convention while reporting from the floor in Chicago.

“Did somebody piss you off? Did something happen? Did somebody do something that you got upset about or was it just purely organic?” Bet-David asked Cuomo on The PBD Podcast .

During his broadcast earlier this month from the convention, Cuomo called out the “game of money” at play at both the DNC and RNC, highlighting the exorbitant amounts being paid for suites and access to candidates. Cuomo had his producer show some of the more expensive suites and called Democrats’ promise to target “corporate gouging” empty talk when one simply takes in the amount of money in modern political races and the access said money can get you.

Cuomo said it was the “degree” of money at the convention that bothered him. He added that he was dealing with some sore ankles as he insisted on being on the convention floor.

“I did not know they would not let me sit down. My ankles looked like my grandmother’s. I had to stand six hours every night and people will be like, so what? Well, I’m 54-years-old, it’s hard,” Cuomo said.

As the NewsNation host would look into some of the suites, donors would see him and draw their drapes closed.

“I said, you know, there’s just such an obvious bullshit aspect and it’s always been like this at every convention I’ve been to. RNCs. Many DNCs. You have to make the money to play the game,” he said.

Cuomo noted presidential races have gone from hundreds of millions to billions.

“In 2000, they spent over $200 million in the presidential election. That’s a lot. This year, the estimate is $10 billion. How can you believe that anybody’s going to do anything to those people? I just believe it was important just to remind. I don’t think people are stupid,” he said.

Cuomo called the DNC and RNC playing up their small dollar donations an “obvious fake.”

“This is an obvious fake, right? Well, who matters more to you, a hundred people who give you a dollar or one guy who gives you a hundred dollars?” he said.

Cuomo said he got plenty of “hate” and “stink eyes” while ripping apart the DNC on the floor. He added he wanted to call out Democrats’ insistence they will target price gouging in the food industry, saying people making such promises are “full of shit.”

“I just wanted people to know the idea of corporate gouging is something that can happen. It is not happening with groceries. The business has some of the smallest margins,” he said. “The idea that that’s what’s going on — it’s not what’s going on. Eggs are higher because you’ve got avian flu all over the world that’s making a difference, people are trying to catch up from the pandemic. There are different reasons, economic and environmental, why it’s happening. But the idea that you’re going to stop it, the idea that you’re going to make them pay their fair share, you’re full of shit because they are going to pay their way right out of it.”

Cuomo received some applause from conservatives over the clip, but he noted that the conventions are basically mirrors of each other as both major parties are playing the same game.

“All the righties love it until I start to cement the point and say, nobody has high ground on this,” he said.
