Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz was excoriated by conservatives on social media for apparently blowing off a question about Hersh Goldberg-Polin and the other hostages found dead by the Israeli military over the weekend at the Minnesota state fair on Sunday.

Goldberg-Polin was a 23-year-old American citizen taken hostage by Hamas as the Nova music festival in southern Israel last October.

While speaking with reporters at the fair, a female reporter asked Walz, “What’s your reaction to the six hostages being found dead in Gaza?” At first, Walz appeared to be listening to the journalist, but midway through it he shot a glance at an aide and shouted “Alright, thanks everybody!” while walking away with what appeared to be a milkshake or ice cream cone in hand.

The only video of his appearance at the state fair actually shared by Walz himself on X shows the governor describing the fair’s pork chops as the “breakfast of champions.”

On social media, conservatives reacted to Walz’s dodge with outrage.

“Gets asked a direct question about dead hostages, including an American, looks at his handler, turns his back and walks away. Depraved,” commented media critic Stephen L. Miller.

American Jews DO NOT turn a blind eye! This is a candidate for Vice President of the United States

@Tim_Walz. He just spit in the faces of Rachel and Jon Polin, every American murdered and taken hostage by Hamas, and the American Jewish community at large,” argued New York City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov.

“Play this clip over and over and over to remind everyone that the Democratic Party has a Hxmas faction they desperately want to appease,” urged columnist Kimberly Ross.

“Donald Trump attends a wreath-laying ceremony for dead Americans at the behest of the families, and we are heading into a second week of press outrage,” observed RedState’s Bonchie.

“Tim Walz eats ice cream and walks away when asked about the American hostage killed, and the press couldn’t care less,”

And actress Patricia Heaton called Walz “an even bigger loser and coward than Kamala.”

After the incident and avalanche of criticism that followed it, Walz issued a statement on X mourning Goldberg-Polin.

“The anguish of losing a child is something no family should have to endure. Gwen and I send our deepest condolences to the Goldberg-Polin family, after Hamas’ murder of their son Hersh,” he wrote. “Hamas is a brutal terrorist organization — and we condemn their continued atrocities against both Americans and Israelis in the strongest possible terms.”
