Biden Joins Harris For Labor Day Pittsburgh Rally in Crucial Swing State Push

President Joe Biden is back on the campaign trail but this time he’s in the supporting role backing Vice President Kamala Harris in Pittsburgh for Labor Day rally – the first time since bowing out of the 2024 presidential race.

After a lackluster debate performance, Biden stepped aside six weeks ago, handing the reins to Harris, who is now the Democratic nominee.

The pair’s joint appearance in Pennsylvania, a key swing state, is all about securing union support. Biden has previously touted himself as “the most pro-union president in US history.” With Harris now leading the charge, she’s taking up that mantle with a firm stance against the sale of US Steel to the Japanese company Nippon, a deal Biden has already condemned.

During his speech he gave his firm backing to Harris to cheers from the crowd:

I know she’ll be a good president. I’ve watched the role of experts, foreign and domestic policy, who would give us advice when we sit alone in a room, and she has a backbone like a ramrod. She has the moral compass of a saint, this woman knows what she’s doing. Folks, I promise you if you elect Kamala Harris as president it will be the best you will have ever made. Kamala believes as I do that unions are the spine of this economy, she’ll be an historic pro-union president.

So folks, we got one more job to do together. Let me ask you, are you ready to fight? Are you ready to win? Are you ready to elect Kamala Harris, our next president? And, in the process, are you ready to make Donald Trump a loser again?

Despite spending the last two weeks on vacation, he is set to rally for Harris in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. These states, crucial to a Democratic victory, have high concentrations of working-class voters, many of whom remain loyal to Biden’s union-friendly policies.

    On Monday, he continued:

I’ve never been more optimistic about America. We have to remember who we are. We’re the United States of America, there’s nothing – and I mean this the bottom of my heart – there’s nothing beyond our capacity when we do it together. And that means elect my friend our great Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris.

Harris, while promising “a new way forward,” is sticking closely to Biden’s policies. As she balances distancing herself from the administration’s economic challenges, particularly inflation, she’s also tying herself to its successes.

Monday’s event in Pittsburgh, attended by major union leaders and top Democrats, shows that Biden’s influence is far from over as the race for the White House heats up.
