Xaviar Babudar, the Kansas City Chiefs “superfan” known as the “ChiefsAholic,” has been sentenced to more than 17 years in prison for a string of robberies.

In December 2022, Babudar was arrested for robbing the Tulsa Teachers Federal Credit Union. He was released on bond in February; and a month later, he was on the run after removing his ankle monitor.

In July 2023, he was located and arrested in California. While Babudar was detained, police discovered the Tulsa robbery was just one of at least 11 robberies in seven different states over a period of a year and a half. He stole approximately $850,000.

After pleading guilty to multiple charges in February 2024 — and an utterly ridiculous statement from his attorney — Babudar was sentenced Thursday to 17.5 years in federal prison. Additionally, U.S. District Court Judge Howard Sachs ordered Babudar to pay nearly $600,000 in restitution to the victims. He will also forfeit the proceeds of his crimes, which includes an autographed painting of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes that Babudar won at an auction.

According to The Kansas City Star’s report, Babudar’s attorney Matthew Merryman wrote in court documents that the robberies were committed due to his “all consuming” gambling debt. At the time of his disappearance in March 2023, he was paid $100,000 after winning a bet on the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl.
