‘I’m Talking Now – Does That Sound Familiar?’ Trump Throws Four-Year-Old One-Liner Back in Harris’s Face

Former President Donald Trump cut off an interruption by Vice President Kamala Harris Tuesday night by reciting his own variation of a line she became known for during her 2020 VP debate against Mike Pence .

As Trump and Harris sparred about the latter’s shift in her positions on fracking and other issues during their debate on ABC News, the vice president cut in. Her microphone was off due to previously agreed-upon rules by both candidates to prevent interruptions. As Harris spoke, Trump looked at her and said, “I’m talking now.”

A transcript of the moment reads:

TRUMP: Fracking? She’s been against it for 12 years. Defund the police. She’s been against that forever. She gave all that stuff up, very wrongly, very horribly. And everybody’s laughing at it. Okay? They’re all laughing at it. She gave up at least 12 and probably 14 or 15 different policies. Like, she was big on defund the police. In Minnesota, she went out –.

HARRIS: [INAUDIBLE]

TRUMP: Wait a minute. I’m talking now. If you don’t mind. Please. Does that sound familiar? She went out –.

HARRIS: Lie.

TRUMP: She went out in Minnesota and wanted to let criminals that killed people, that burned down Minneapolis, she went out and raised money to get them out of jail.

On Oct. 8, 2020, Harris made headlines when she fended off a debate interruption from Pennce as the two discussed the Covid pandemic. CNN reported:

She was firm without falling into any of the traps that could associate her with labels – emotional, angry, nasty – reserved for women, especially Black women.

Early on in the debate, as Harris rebutted the Trump administration’s comic assertion that its disastrously slow response to the novel coronavirus pandemic was out of a desire to keep Americans calm, the Vice President tried to cut her off.

“Mr. Vice President, I’m speaking,” Harris said. The moderator, Susan Page of USA Today, granted the senator an additional 15 seconds to talk.
