‘Dangerous Fool’: Former Top Romney Aide Declares ‘VP Harris Disqualified Trump’ At Debate

Longtime GOP political operative and top strategist for Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign, Stuart Stevens, offered his take on the debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump on Wednesday morning.

Stevens pulled no punches in declaring Trump “disqualified” from the presidency and a “dangerous fool.”

“I worked for Mitt Romney. He had a great debate with President Obama in Denver. He demonstrated why he was qualified to be president and offered an alternative to incumbent,” began Stevens in a post on X, adding :

But the debate did not disqualify President Obama, any more than John Kerry’s first debate disqualified President Bush.
Last night, VP Harris disqualified Trump. He was exposed as a fool, a know nothing who can’t distinguish between fantasy and reality. He astonishingly said he would not have honored Article 5 of NATO, the linchpin to post-WW2 peace and prosperity for Western Alliance. He showed he lives in this make-believe world where Americans overwhelmingly opposed Roe v Wade.

He was humiliated, dominated, left sputtering “Get off my lawn!”

That dangerous fool is the legacy of the modern Republican Party. All those Rs I helped elect, when your careers are studied, this is what you will be remembered for.

Shame. You failed a test as Americans. The worst generation.

Stevens has worked as a political strategist and media consultant for dozens of high-profile Republicans over the years, including Sen. Bob Dole , President George W Bush , Sen. John McCain, and a handful of governors and members of Congress. He was an early critic of Trump in 2016 and publicly said he voted for Joe Biden in 2020.

Stevens also highlighted a specific moment from the debate and argued it was evidence that Harris’s campaign is functioning at a very “high level.” Stevens shared a clip of Harris hammering Trump over his pro-Russia posturing regarding the war in Ukraine. “Why don’t you tell the 800,000 Polish Americans right here in Pennsylvania how quickly you would give up for the sake of favor, and what you think is a friendship with a dictator who would eat you for lunch?” Harris says in the clip Steven shared.

He captioned the clip, “This is a little thing but it’s a big thing. Someone in Harris debate prep world came up with a way to make Ukraine resonate with a specific group of voters, then equipped their boss with the relevant stats for Pa. Then she delivered it like she had said it 100 times. That’s a campaign performing at a very high level.”
