Vice President Kamala Harris drew roars of laughter when she mocked former President Donald Trump’s insistence on the debate stage that he has “concepts of a plan” to replace Obamacare.
Trump and VP Harris met for the first time on the debate stage in Philadelphia Tuesday night for the ABC News debate, which generated many memorable moments.
One of those moments was the former president’s response when he was pressed about his long-promised healthcare plan:
TRUMP: And what we will do is we’re looking at different plans. If we can come up with a plan that’s going to cost our people, our population less money and be better health care than Obamacare, then I would absolutely do it. But until then, I’d run it as good as it can be run.
DAVIS: So just yes or no, you still do not have a plan?
TRUMP: I have concepts of a plan. I’m not president right now. But if we come up with something, I would only change it if we come up with something that’s better and less expensive. And there are concepts and options we — we have to do that, and you’ll be hearing about it in the not too distant future.
That moment became the star of the VP’s rallies in North Carolina Thursday. Harris spoke to a crowd of 7,500 people in Charlotte, and another 17, 000 people in Greensboro a few hours later.
The VP mocked Trump over the comment at both rallies:
VP KAMALA HARRIS (CHARLOTTE): You heard what he said in the debate. He has no plan to replace it. He said. It is that concept of a cloud. Are you all the debate?Concepts, concepts. No actual plan. Concepts.
CROWD: (LAUGHTER).
VP KAMALA HARRIS (CHARLOTTE): And understand what’s at stake on that. 45 million Americans are insured through the Affordable Care Act. And he’s going to end it based on a concept.
And take us back to when insurance companies had the power to deny people with preexisting conditions. Well, we are not going back!
CROWD: NOT GOING BACK! NOT GOING BACK! NOT GOING BACK!
VP KAMALA HARRIS (GREENSBORO): On top of this, Donald Trump intends to end the Affordable Care Act. Now, think about that. Think about that. Think we remember what it meant when insurance companies could deny you for a preexisting condition. Remember what that was?
CROWD: (JEERING).
VP KAMALA HARRIS (GREENSBORO): So he wants to get rid of it. And as he said in the debate, he made clear he has no plan to replace it. In fact.
Unidentified You remember. You remember he has (LAUGHING), quote, “Concepts of a plan!”.
Concepts of a plan! I mean, we’re 54 days from this election! Concepts of a plan!
Which means no actual plan. Which means no actual plan. And 45 million Americans are insured through the Affordable Care Act. So understand what that means. He’s going to end it based on a concept.
And take us back to when folks were suffering? Well, we’re not going back. We are not going back!
