Trump’s Conspiracy Whisperer Laura Loomer Has Been ALL Over the News — Except One Top-Rated Cable News Network

Future historians will likely refer to the past few days as “The Laura Loomer News Cycle” and possibly determine it to be the key moment in the eventual decline of Western civilization.

Loomer is the bigoted attention hog notorious for being extremely online and sharing unhinged conspiracy theories when she isn’t handcuffing herself to Twitter’s New York office building to protest being banned by the social media company (before Elon Musk let her back on). It’s not a stretch to say that she’s “nuts,” not in a clinical way, but in a way that defines the crazy and enormous influence that the extremely online right has on former President Donald Trump .

She has been getting a ton of coverage lately, which no doubt makes her thrilled, but much of it is because she has apparently entered Trump’s inter sanctum of advisors, heretofore known as the Counsel of Doofuses (Doofi?). Footage of her deboarding “Trump Force One” after it landed at a Philadelphia airport ahead of Tuesday night’s debate made a ton more sense after Trump insisted to the 60 million plus viewers that immigrants were eating cats and dogs, despite there being no credible evidence in support of that batshit crazy claim.

On Thursday, she took her conspiracy theories to a new level when she baselessly claimed Haitian immigrants were cannibalistic before claiming Trump will save the country from becoming a third-world nation.

News outlets known for making smart judgments about NOT covering the craziest attention-seekers are suddenly forced to give Loomer exactly what she craves: air time. An intraparty and very ugly spat with fellow conservative bomb-thrower Marjorie Taylor Greene also helped get each of them their much-coveted ink in what’s the dopiest politically symbiotic relationship in history, but here we are.

Cable news outlets are covering Loomer and her sudden influence on the guy who quite possibly could be the most powerful person in the world again in four months’ time, and understandably so. But not ALL networks are covering her.

A basic search of cable news transcripts over the past three weeks is revealing: MSNBC has mentioned Loomer on-air 133 times. CNN has mentioned her 186 times as of publishing this article.

In many ways this is not at all surprising, but no less illuminating.  As I have written about, Fox News has a rather obvious propensity to ignore any stories that paint Donald Trump in a less-than-flattering light.  From that column published nearly a year ago:

Trump loves to tell his base of supporters that Fox News is out to get him, which has proven to be a remarkably effective tactic given his control over the Republican base and insurmountable lead in the polls.

But it’s as much of an effective battering ram as it’s profoundly untrue: Fox News continues, even after Trump’s presidency ended in the violent riot at the U.S. Capitol, to either ignore or downplay nearly every major news story that paints Trump in an unfavorable light. Those who get their news from Fox are left mostly unaware of the abject shit show of bad headlines that follow the 45th president.

The examples might be too numerous to list. In just the past few weeks, we have seen a raft of sins by Trump get zero mention on Fox News airwaves.

In a Truth Social post, Trump called for the execution of now-retired Joint Chiefs Chair Mark Milley . Yes, Trump labeled the most senior and decorated leader of the U.S. military a traitor and even suggested he be executed for his imaginary sins. This is an enormous deal, and apart from only three short segments , it was deemed unfit for coverage by Fox News executives. Huh.

Then, Trump called for the prosecution of NBC News and MSNBC, which was less a threat than a pledge to action once elected. Fox News hosts who have spent the last few years warning of liberal censorship and attacks on free speech said almost nothing. Crickets.

And now we can add Loomer’s sudden influence on Trump to the list of negative stories that dedicated cable news viewers have not learned about from Fox News. Maybe they think she is too crazy to cover? They are opting to not give her the very oxygen that she craves? That’s a charitable explanation but almost certainly naive.

Loomer is openly claiming a Republican senator is closeted, making racist comments about Vice President Kamala Harris’s Indian ancestry (where are you on this one, JD and Usha Vance ?), and spilling dirt on her rival for Trump’s attention, Taylor Greene. She’s a flat-out nutter and sharing baseless conspiracy theories with the Republican nominee, who doesn’t know any better but to repeat them during a nationally televised debate.

I regret having to cover Loomer because I do think she is better left ignored, but when she’s entered the strata of trusted Trump advisor? She’s news that needs to be covered. Fox News ignoring this story does not serve their former “fair and balanced” tagline well, but in many ways, it is not at all a surprise.
