Trump Demands Republicans Shut Down Government Over Baseless Claim Democrats Are Registering ‘TENS OF THOUSANDS’ of Illegal Voters

Former President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump demanded in a Truth Social post Wednesday that congressional Republicans shut down the federal government unless they’re able to push through the SAVE Act in the coming days.

“If Republicans don’t get the SAVE Act, and every ounce of it, they should not agree to a Continuing Resolution in any way, shape, or form. Democrats are registering Illegal Voters by the TENS OF THOUSANDS, as we speak – They will be voting in the 2024 Presidential Election, and they shouldn’t be allowed to,” wrote Trump. “Only American Citizens should be voting in our Most Important Election in History, or any Election! A Vote must happen BEFORE the Election, not AFTER the Election when it is too late. BE SMART, REPUBLICANS, YOU’VE BEEN PUSHED AROUND LONG ENOUGH BY THE DEMOCRATS. DON’T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN. Remember, this is Biden/Harris’ fault, not yours!”

The SAVE Act would require those registering to vote to show proof of citizenship. Trump is pressuring Republicans to not agree to a continuing resolution to fund the federal government unless the SAVE Act is passed by both chambers of Congress.

Although minor cases of voter fraud have been uncovered in the past, Trump has for years advanced a false conspiracy theory that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him through mass voter fraud for which he has never presented compelling evidence.

Earlier this month, Trump submitted that “If Republicans in the House, and Senate, don’t get absolute assurances on Election Security, THEY SHOULD, IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, GO FORWARD WITH A CONTINUING RESOLUTION ON THE BUDGET. THE DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO ‘STUFF’ VOTER REGISTRATIONS WITH ILLEGAL ALIENS. DON’T LET IT HAPPEN – CLOSE IT DOWN!!”

He has also promised to prosecute those he deems responsible for his imagined scheme to steal the presidency from him when he retakes the White House.

“I, together with many Attorneys and Legal Scholars, am watching the Sanctity of the 2024 Presidential Election very closely because I know, better than most, the rampant Cheating and Skullduggery that has taken place by the Democrats in the 2020 Presidential Election. It was a Disgrace to our Nation!” wrote Trump in another post. “Therefore, the 2024 Election, where Votes have just started being cast, will be under the closest professional scrutiny and, WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again. We cannot let our Country further devolve into a Third World Nation, AND WE WON’T! Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, & Corrupt Election Officials. Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country.”
