Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson said he’s staying out of the 2024 presidential election, but added former President Donald Trump’s reaction to the first assassination attempt against him was the rapper’s reaction when he got shot.

At a July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, a shooter fired off multiple rounds, killing one rally goer and striking the former president in the ear. Police also foiled another assassination attempt this month after a man was arrested after having brought a rifle to a Florida golf course where Trump was.

Jackson caused some waves of speculation earlier this year after he said that Black voters are “identifying” with Trump.

In the CBS interview out Saturday, Jackson was asked if he’s “really going to stay out of this presidential campaign?”

“I’d like to stay out of it. You know, well, look, things happen like Trump gets shot and they start playing Many Men and it jumps 250% in streaming,” Jackson said.

On a stream following the first assassination attempt, Trump walked out to Jackson’s Many Men , which includes the lyrics: “Many men wish death upon me. Blood in my eye, dawg, and I can’t see, I’m tryin’ to be what I’m destined to be.”

The song quickly jumped 250% on streaming charts.

Jackson said people “identify” with how Trump responded to the would-be assassin in Butler. A bloodied Trump raised his fist and yelled, “fight!” to the crowd multiple times as Secret Service dragged him off the stage.

“He says fight. All right. And that’s exactly what I did after I got shot. I just went into fight mode,” he said. “People identify with it that way.”

Jackson today is an entertainment mogul and producer in a variety of industries (he’s promoting a new novel The Accomplice ), but the rapper opened up about his early days in trouble with the law for dealing drugs.

He told CBS the experiences made him who he is and ultimately getting shot cemented his ambition to become a successful rapper. Jackson was shot nine times in 2000 outside his grandmother’s house, getting hit in his legs, arm, face, hand, and chest.
