‘Glad You’re Out of Jail’: Top Pence Aide Roasts Ex-White House Colleague Peter Navarro

Republican operative Marc Short , who previously served as chief of staff to former Vice President Mike Pence and as Donald Trump’s White House Director of Legislative Affairs, roasted his former colleague Peter Navarro on Tuesday.

Navarro, who served as director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy under Trump, started the feud by sharing a link to an article summing up Pence’s recent op-ed for The Wall Street Journal and offering Pence some unsolicited advice.

“Brother Mike, You need to stop being led around by the nose by Marc Short, whose ‘advice’ destroyed your career. This is just a stupid way to sell books,” he submitted.

Short followed up in brief, yet devastating fashion, writing, “Good to hear from you Peter. Glad you’re out of jail.”

Navarro was sentenced to a four-month sentence after being convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress for failing to produce documents for and testify in front of the House Select Committee on the January 6 attack. After serving out his sentence earlier this year, Navarro addressed the Republican National Convention in a primetime address.

In his op-ed , Pence took a number of shots at Trump over trade, abortion, foreign policy, and fidelity to the Constitution while laying out his vision for Republican victory in down-ballot races this fall.

Pence told Fox News in March that “it should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year.”

“During my presidential campaign, I made it clear there were profound differences between me and President Trump on a range of issues. And not just our difference on my constitutional duties that I exercised on January 6th,” he said at the time. I mean, as I have watched his candidacy unfold, I’ve seen him walking away from our commitment to confronting the national debt. I’ve seen him starting to shy away from a commitment to the sanctity of human life.”
