‘Nice to See’: Trump Offers Rare Message of Gratitude to Democrats Over Secret Service Funding

Former President Donald Trump offered a rare message of praise for Democrats this week, thanking them for joining Republicans to allocate more funding to the U.S. Secret Service.

“Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone,” Trump began in his unique rhetorical style, adding:

I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before. Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service – Zero “NO” Votes, strictly bipartisan. Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker!

Roll Call covered the additional funding to the Secret Service added to a short-term spending bill on Sunday. “House leaders put $231 million in new funding in a 12-week extension of federal spending unveiled Sunday, as Congress faces a deadline of Sept. 30 to act to avoid a shutdown. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer of New York and President Joe Biden have voiced support for additional funding for the agency,” noted the report, adding:

Members of Congress have been scrutinizing the budget for the Secret Service in the aftermath of a shooting at a Trump rally in July in Butler, Pa. Those concerns were elevated after the Secret Service arrested a man in connection with an assassination attempt Sept. 15 at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Trump continued to sound off on Iran during a rally in Mint Hill, North Carolina on Wednesday, vowing to annihilate the country for backing an assassination plot against him.

“But if I were the president, I would inform the threatening country, in this case Iran, that if you do anything to harm this person, we are going to blow your largest cities and the country itself to smithereens. We’re going to blow it to smithereens. You can’t do that. And there would be no more threats,” Trump told a cheering crowd.
