MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle calls out Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris for sidestepping a key question on how she plans to fund her economic agenda.

During an interview on Wednesday, Ruhle pressed Harris on where the administration would “get the money” to implement its proposals if a divided Congress blocks efforts to raise corporate taxes.

Ruhle asked: “Do you still go forward with those plans and borrow?”

The vice president responded, “We’re going to have to make sure that the biggest corporations and billionaires pay their fair share. That’s just it. It’s about paying their fair share.”

Host Nicole Wallace smiled after running the clip on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House and said, ”I kind of love that answer.”

Ruhle disagreed, insisting that Harris “doesn’t answer the question.” The host noted that if Republicans control the Senate and block any tax hikes, Harris’s options for funding her agenda, including expanding the child tax credit, remain unclear.

Ruhle said: “That’s great, and that’s a campaign promise, but if it means we’re gonna just borrow again, then what we’re doing is we’re just never addressing the deficit.”

She continued: “It’s like the American people have forgotten, or we no longer think debt and deficits matter. They will at some point as they balloon.”

Ruhle added that former President Donald Trump would “balloon” the deficit “significantly bigger than Vice President Harris will” but maintained that Harris’s answer was insufficient: “She’s saying, ‘It doesn’t matter, we’re going full steam ahead.’”
