Fox News’ Andy McCarthy Roasts Eric Adams’s Defense Attorney: ‘That Didn’t Sound Like a Defense’

Legal analyst and Fox News contributor Andy McCarthy roasted New York City Mayor Eric Adams’s defense attorney in an appearance on the network Thursday, telling Martha MacCallum that his defense of his client “didn’t sound like a defense.”

“You know, some people who have looked at these, Andy — and I know you’ve just laid out how thorough it is — question whether or not, you know, how serious some of this is. That it’s not unusual — you just heard his attorney — for a consulate to call the mayor’s office and ask if they can expedite something for them, claims his attorney, and that it’s not unusual to get upgrades on flights and hotels,” said MacCallum before handing the floor over to McCarthy.

“Well, that didn’t sound like a defense. That sounded more to me like mitigation, those comments” replied the former federal prosecutor with a chuckle. “He wasn’t asking them to, you know, do a favor to put me on the top of the pile. He was basically saying, ‘Approve a high rise building that can’t pass its safety inspection.’ And I think the big thing here, Martha, with respect to all the people you talked about, is these are officials that are very close to Adams, a number of whom are cooperating with the investigation.”

McCarthy went on to speculate that Adams might hold on to his office in spite of the indictment against him, observing that “former President Trump kind of broke the mold on that. There’s an awful lot you can do while you’re under indictment.”

Adams has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal program bribery, and to receive campaign contributions by foreign nationals, one count of wire fraud, one count of bribery, and two counts of solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national, all in connection with his acceptance of straw donations and gifts, many of them from Turkish agents.

The mayor is alleged, among other things, to have used his power to benefit the Turkish government, specifically by forcing the New York City Fire Department to allow a Turkish consulate to open without a fire inspection, which it would have failed.
