Lara Trump Tells Kristen Welker Trump Was Just ‘Joking Around’ When Calling Kamala Harris ‘Mentally Disabled’

Former First Daughter-in-Law and current RNC head Lara Trump told NBC’s Kristen Welker that former President Donald Trump is just “joking around” when he attacks Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate as “mentally disabled” or “moron.”

Trump has consistently denigrated Harris over her intelligence, but ramped it up this past weekend by calling her “mentally impaired” and “mentally disabled” during a rally , and calling Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) a “moron” during a Fox interview.

On Tuesday’s edition of NBC’s Meet The Press NOW , Welker asked Lara Trump about those remarks, and pressed her after Trump went on a digression about the border.

Lara told Welker her father-in-law is just “joking around” with the crowd when he makes remarks like that:

KRISTEN WELKER: I understand the arguments you want to make. I understand we’re probably going to hear that with Senator Vance tonight on the debate stage too, but I want your State Bar on this language, calling Kamala Harris, saying she was born mentally incompetent, saying that Tim Walz is a moron. Is that language that you think best represents your father-in-law, and the Republican Party? Just the language?

LARA TRUMP: Well, I’ll tell you this is, this is Donald Trump, and he has never tried to make himself out to be anyone other than who he is. And obviously he’s kind of joking around there with the crowd at a Trump rally when he says those things. But the reality stands, as to what I just said, and it does beg the question as to what the heck has been going on in that White House. What I’ll tell you as it relates to the down ballot races is that Donald Trump has a history of helping all of the people, all the candidates on the Republican side of the ticket in down ballot races. He traditionally pulls higher than all of the down ballot candidates, and he traditionally lifts them up. So any concerns anyone has about Donald Trump being on the ticket with them on the Republican side, and I really don’t buy. I think the Democrats are probably worried about losing the Senate and possibly not being able to gain any ground in the house with Donald Trump on the ticket.
