Dan Abrams Slams TikTok For ‘Trying To Shape The News’ After Platform Removed His Media Criticism, Hezbollah Clips

NewsNation host Dan Abrams slammed TikTok for “trying to shape the news” after a series of content censorship moves by the social media platform against his Dan Abrams Live account, resulting in him being slapped with a warning for policy breach. Abrams is the founder and owner of Mediaite.

Speaking on Wednesday’s show, the host’s monologue was triggered by the latest action against Abrams after TikTok removed a recent clip from his account critiquing the media’s coverage of Israel’s killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah .

On Monday night, I went after the media for trying to whitewash now-killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s murderous past. The next day posted that segment on TikTok and it was almost immediately removed, censored for somehow violating TikTok’s community guidelines. I received a warning, a nice big red warning at the top of my account that said you’ve received a warning for your first violation. The next violation will result in a strike.

The level of TikTok censorship may be one of the most underappreciated media stories with over a billion monthly active users. The Chinese owned company is definitely trying to shape the news we see and not see.

Abrams continued, repeating the arguments he had made on Monday night’s show about Nasrallah’s crimes and reflected on the sympathetic obituaries rolled out in “left-leaning” media outlets and national newspapers such as The Washington Post, which called the leader’s role as a “moral compass and a political guide.” The host added that Nazi German dictator Adolf Hitler and Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden would have been subjectively held in the same esteem by their followers.

He continued: “It doesn’t mean these horrible figures get a silver lining shed on their deaths. So I can’t say that. But it’s okay to post this?”

Abrams ran back a clip of a TikTok user criticizing Israel for the assassination of Nasrallah in what he said was “basically calling for violence against Israel” that “passed TikTok’s standards” as “safe and trustworthy.”

The host went on to note a political trend in which TikTok gave the green light to some stories that his show posted and banned others.

Here’s the thing. This wasn’t just a one time deal. This has happened to me numerous times and it’s definitely a pattern. My account has been selectively censored on videos related to the war between Israel and Hamas. A post questioning the Gaza Health Ministry’s death toll numbers: flagged, made ineligible for the broader feed. TikTok giving some arbitrary reasoning for restrictions such as “unoriginal, low quality and QR code content.” I may have been low quality but come on. Unoriginal content is apparently fine, when I’m critical of Israel.

There were no blocks or restrictions on a segment about Israel striking a Gaza aid convoy, where I asked tough questions of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s spokesperson – that got promoted! And by the way, it’s not just Israel and Gaza related content. Last week, our segment about a trial for election fraud in Florida was removed from the platform without much of an explanation. We appealed that one Election integrity is a part of the TikTok community guidelines. But exposing an actual case of election fraud where there was a trial, where we had the video from the trial, is somehow ineligible to be on the platform?

Even a segment we did questioning if masks actually prevent the spread of Covid after a study found no conclusive evidence that masks work. It was not an anti-mask segment either. I was asking why divide people, why not just try and get answers about this? More details, more research? That whole segment got completely removed for violating community guidelines. That one, we couldn’t get restored.
