Joe Scarborough Blasts ‘News Channels’ Helping Trump Push ‘Political Lies’ About Hurricane Relief Efforts

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough blasted Fox News — albeit not by name — for helping push the Trump campaign’s “political lies” about the federal government’s relief response for states impacted by Hurricane Helene.

The hurricane, which caused widespread flooding across several south-eastern states , left a death toll of at least 225 as hundreds of thousands of people remain without power.

Former President Donald Trump , however, has since claimed that the Biden administration had allocated emergency relief money on housing migrants, pushing the claim that survivors were offered a mere $750 in help – an initial emergency allocation misconstrued as the total sum of aid being provided. Federal assistance provided currently amounts to $137 million.

During Sunday’s rally in Wisconsin, the Republican nominee further claimed that citizens of the states impacted haven’t seen “anybody from the federal government yet.” With almost 7,000 federal personnel on the ground in the impacted states , both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris visited devastated areas.

Reflecting on the Trump campaign’s leveraging of the crisis during Monday’s show opening, Scarborough criticized the “news channels” he said were “out and out lying” about what’s happening on the ground despite local Republican officials’ praise for the federal response.

Scarborough didn’t go into specifics, but he could have been talking about a clip of Vice President Harris that featured a remarkably misleading edit and aired across Fox News prime time Thursday evening.

After slamming Trump’s rhetoric about Democratic rivals, the host went after media outlets that helped propagate the campaign’s “lying” about Ohio immigrants and the ongoing hurricane disaster.

Trump and Vance lying about people of Ohio eating dogs and cats. You have the Republican governor of Ohio, lifelong Republican, telling them to stop, that it is a lie.

Now, the people of the Carolinas are suffering in a way that only those who have gone through tragic hurricanes, like Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Camille, and now this hurricane, could imagine.

Donald Trump, JD Vance , Eric Trump , everyone else in the Republican party, entire news channels out and out lying about what’s going on on the ground there.

[Trump is] talking about civil war. It’s staggering, just staggering, when you have Republican governors from those states, Republican senators from those states, Republican mayors from those states, Republican county commissioners from those states, Republican officials from those states, saying that they’re doing great. In a tragic situation, they are coordinating very well with the federal government.

Shame on Donald Trump. Show this Charlotte Observer headline, it is an editorial from the largest paper in the state of North Carolina: ‘Shame on Donald Trump for worsening North Carolina’s tragedy with Political Lies.’

    Watch above on MSNBC.
