CNN Pro-Trumper Scott Jennings Smack-Talks Never-Trumper Sarah Longwell On-Air — Gets Brutal Clap-Back In Short Order

Pro-Trump CNN analyst Scott Jennings talked smack about Bulwark publisher and Never-Trumper Sarah Longwell on the air — only to get a brutal rejoinder from Longwell on social media.

On Friday morning’s edition of CNN News Central ,  Jennings — who sparred with Longwell on CNN recently — rolled his eyes when anchor Kate Bolduan cited Longwell’s work, and disparaged her expertise:

KATE BOLDUAN: What Politico’s leaning on Scott here was focus group expert Sarah Longwell–. She’s done a lot of work.

SCOTT JENNINGS: (LAUGHS, ROLLS EYES).

KATE BOLDUAN: You know, don’t roll your eyes! She may have opinions. She’s also a very good expert on speaking with voters and opinions of voters.

SCOTT JENNINGS: (SMIRKS).

KATE BOLDUAN: I’m going to tell her that!

SCOTT JENNINGS: Please.

KATE BOLDUAN: I shall. I shall. And they speak to her. And she says she says it concerns her. But she says that what it comes down to is that she says what she’s hearing is it’s a boy versus girls election. She says forget policy. The election is about culture. She contends that the biggest thing separating men and women right now is not policy differences. Rather, men and women are finding themselves at loggerheads over cultural issues.

SCOTT JENNINGS: Totally. I think that’s true. She also said, if I read correctly, that men like Donald Trump because he has a hot wife, I mean, that was her expert analysis.

Not long after that, Longwell took to social media to respond, writing “Sometimes it’s fun to go back and look at what the current Trump apologists said about Trump in the aftermath of January 6th. Like this gem from ⁦@ScottJenningsKY⁩. Good reminder of why no one should take them seriously today.”

That message accompanied a hall-of-fame receipt in the form of a CNN clip from January 6, 2021 in which Jennings sang a different tune — even suggesting Trump was such a threat he might need to step down immediately:

ANDERSON COOPER: Scott, should President Trump remain in office for the next two weeks?

SCOTT JENNINGS: Well, I’ve been wrestling with this question all day. I mean, he’s clearly violated his oath of office to preserve protect and defend the constitution, to the best of my ability. And no one could with a straight face argue that he has preserving, protecting or defending it. And in fact, it’s the opposite of defending it. It’s under attack.

So, he is certainly not doing any of that to the best of his ability. So, if you want to strictly look at his oath. He’s violated it. You can make an argument he violated it his weekend when called the Georgia Secretary of State as well, which seems like a lifetime ago.

I don’t know the answer, I know that there are things being discussed. I don’t know what the right thing to do is tonight. He doesn’t seem like to me, based on the tweets that were remove that he learned any lesson after this got out of hand today. This is what you get when you steal an election? He didn’t learned anything when this happened today.

And so, if that’s going to be his attitude for the next two weeks I’m very fearful of what other insurrection type activities. And that’s exactly what it was, it was an insurrection. And it should be labeled as such, I can’t believe more people haven’t been arrested for storming the Capitol of the United States.

And I can’t frankly believe there are still Republicans tonight, siding with the people who storm the Capitol by voting for these objections. Siding with the people who are wearing animal pelts and horns, and scaling down the walls of the U.S. Senate? It’s absurd, and it’s a stain on this president, on our party, on our country and I cannot believe what I saw in my television today. And I had to explain to my children at home.
