‘This is a Big One!’ NBC’s Welker and Kornacki Unveil Shocking New Poll Showing Trump Wiping Out 5 Point Harris Lead to Tie the Race

NBC’s Kristen Welker and Steve Kornacki unveiled a shocking new poll Sunday which shows former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris deadlocked.

In the opening moments of Sunday’s Meet the Press , Welker and Kornacki went through the findings of a brand new NBC News poll — which showed Trump has erased a 5-point deficit in a survey taken shortly after the Sept. 10 presidential debate .

“Boy, this is a big one!” Welker said at the outset.

“Yeah, Kristen, the numbers say it,” Kornacki replied. “It is a tie game here weeks before the election.”

The poll gives both Trump and Harris 48 percent of the vote — a 5-point swing from September when Trump trailed 49-44. Conventional wisdom is that Trump would likely prevail if the race were tied nationally. In 2016, he won the presidency despite losing the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by 2 percent.

Kornacki attributed the shift in the race to rising negatives for Harris. In the previous NBC News survey, Harris was viewed positively by 48 percent of voters, and negatively by 45 percent. In the new poll, Harris is now viewed negatively by 49 percent, and positively by 43 percent.

“That advantage has all in the last few weeks in our poll washed away for her,” Kornacki said.

The NBC News correspondent also highlighted a gender gap which he called historic. The poll found men favor Trump by 16 points, while women prefer Harris by 14 percent.

“If that happens on Election Day, that’s one for the history books,” Kornacki said. “We’ve never seen it that high.”
