Trump Compares January 6th Convicts to Japanese Americans at Internment Camps: ‘No One Has Ever Been Treated Like This!’

Former President Donald Trump compared the January 6th Capitol rioters to Japanese Americans forced into internment camps during World War II — widely considered a dark chapter in American history.

During a Friday morning interview with conservative pundit Dan Bongino, Trump claimed that “no one has ever been treated” as bad as those convicted for rioting at the Capitol building in 2021 except “maybe” the Japanese prisoners.

Moreover, the former president claimed that the rioters did not bring firearms to the Capitol while rioting for Trump to stay in office. Trump has previously made this claim but was fact-checked by CNN’s Brianna Keilar.

According to the Washington Post, Trial testimony and accounts from police officers at the Capitol indicate that multiple individuals brought firearms to DC for Jan. 6, 2021.

Why are they still being held? Nobody’s ever been treated like this. Nobody’s ever maybe the Japanese during the Second World War, frankly. But, you know, they were held too. But when you look at Portland and the damage they did and killed people because other than Ashley, nobody was killed here. Nobody was killed and there were no guns involved. And these are all gun owners. You know, these are people that have guns, but they never went to the capital with those. It’s really amazing. It’s a very sad I think it’s a very sad day in the country’s life.

Last week, Trump promised to invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 – a part of the infamous Alien and Sedition Acts — in order to carry out his mass deportation scheme. Critics were quick to point out that the law Trump wants to revive was also behind Japanese-American interment.
