Trump’s First Reaction to Israel Killing Hamas Leader Sinwar: ‘That’s Sometimes What Happens’

Former President Donald Trump addressed Israel’s killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar when asked by a reporter about it on Friday afternoon after landing at a campaign stop in Michigan.

Trump had yet to speak publicly about the killing of the October 7th mastermind, despite both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris quickly offering lengthy statements both praising Sinwar’s death as justice for the victims of the attack on southern Israel and offering hope that a ceasefire may be nearing.

“My reaction is, he was not a good person. That’s my reaction. That’s sometimes what happens,” Trump responded when asked about Sinwar by ABC News.

Trump was also asked if he had been in touch with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “He’s called me. I have not spoken with him. He’s doing a good job. I’m glad Bibi decided to do what he had to do but it’s moving along pretty good,” replied Trump who also claimed Biden had been holding Netanyahu back.

Trump was also asked how Sinwar’s death might impact peace negotiations. He replied, “I think it makes it easier. I’m glad that Bibi (Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) decided to do what he had to do.”

“Now’s the time to move on. … Move toward a cease-fire in Gaza, make sure that we move in a direction that we’re able to make things better for the whole world,” Biden told reporters of Sinwar’s killing Thursday. “It’s time for this war to end and bring these hostages home. That’s what we’re ready to do.”
