Alec Baldwin returned to Saturday Night Live for the first time since a brief cameo last November to take part in the show’s cold open. Only, Baldwin did not come back as Donald Trump, but as Fox News anchor Bret Baier.

In a wild, nine-minute cold open, SNL lampooned Baier’s interview on Wednesday with Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Good evening, I’m Bret Baier,” Baldwin said. “And to clear the air, yes, I do look like someone made a businessman in Minecraft.”

Harris, portrayed by Maya Rudolph, walked out and greeted her inquisitor.

“Thank you, Bret,” she said. “It’s a pleasure for neither of us.”

The sketch poked fun at Baier for a line of inquiry it perceived to be overly tough compared with interviews of former President Donald Trump, and for frequent interruptions of Harris.

“When I interviewed President Trump, my first question was, what do you think is the most important issue facing our nation?” Baier said. “So my first question for you is: give me the exact number of murderers you let loose in this country.”

When Harris tried to respond, Baier repeatedly interjected.

    Harris: “May I please finish?”

    Baier: “I’m asking you to.”

Harris: “Well, then you have to listen.”

    Baier: “Well I can’t because I’m talking.”

Harris: “Well, When will you stop?”

Baier: “Maybe when I go to bed.”

As it has in prior weeks, SNL went after Harris for running a campaign centered on empty platitudes.

“This election is about contrast,” Harris said. “At my rallies, there’s Beyoncé and joy and bathrooms. At [Trump’s] rallies, he won’t pay for the busses, and hundreds of elderly people got to walk back to their cars six miles through the desert like an Old Testament Fyre Festival.”

The show also went after Fox News for airing a clip of Trump trying to clean up his recent “enemy within” comments, rather than the original soundbite — which Baier admitted was a “mistake.”
