MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart Airs Clips Comparing Trump Rally to 1939 Nazi Event At MSG

MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart said there were  “chilling” parallels between former President Donald Trump’s MAGA rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday and the infamous rally held there in 1939 by supporters of Nazi German dictator Adolf Hitler .

During the rally multiple speakers delivered speeches with a heavy focus on immigration before Trump finally took to the stage. In his own speech, Trump outlined his proposed deportation policy and described Election Day as a “liberation day” from immigrant “occupation,” and repeated his charge that Democrats were the “enemy from within.”

Following proceedings on his show Sunday night, Capehart hit out at Trump’s call for “massive deportations” of immigrants and called out the campaign for “once again turning Madison Square Garden into a staging ground for extremism.”

Donald Trump’s rally at Madison square garden comes days after his own former chief of staff went on record to describe his former boss as a fascist. But that jamboree happening right now, you see it there on your screen, in that place, is particularly chilling because in 1939, more than 20,000 supporters of a different fascist leader, Adolf Hitler, packed the Garden for a so-called Pro-American Rally, a rally where speakers voiced anti-semitic rhetoric from a stage draped with Nazi banners. When a Jewish protester rushed the stage, the Associated Press reported: “Instantly, a dozen or more storm troopers set upon him, knocking him down and beating him as he held his head in his arms. Most of his clothing was torn from his body. Later, he was booked for disorderly conduct.”

Now, against that backdrop of history, Donald, the man who has threatened to use the military against opponents he calls “enemies from within,” who has threatened to use the troops to quell what he says are lawless cities, and to use those troops to carry out massive deportations of immigrants, is once again turning Madison Square Garden into a staging ground for extremism.

In response to the segment, Elon Musk , who spoke at the rally on Sunday night, labeled MSNBC “scum of the earth.”
