Interim presidents tapped to fill vacancies at UF, FAMU
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Interim presidents have been named to two State University System of Florida vacancies. The University of Florida and Florida A&M University presidents recently announced their resignations. Last week, University of Florida President Ben Sasse announced his departure from the school due to his wife's recent health issues. FAMU President Larry Robinson also announced his resignation last week after FAMU’s controversial acceptance and then rejection of a $237 million donation.
First Lady Casey DeSantis Hosts Cooking Class for Florida Youth in Foster Care
ORLANDO, Fla.—Today, First Lady Casey DeSantis, joined by Department of Children and Families Secretary Shevaun Harris and Guardian ad Litem Executive Director Dennis Moore, hosted a hands-on, healthy cooking class for Hope Florida mentors and mentees. The event showcased the partnership between Hope Florida and the Guardian ad Litem program, which has produced hundreds of mentorship pairings since it was launched in September 2023. More mentors are needed across the state of Florida for those youth aging out of the foster care system.
Florida Ranked in the Top 12 States with the Best School System
A popular consumer advice website released a report on the best and worst school systems, and Florida ranked among the top 12. According to WalletHub.com’s study, the top states with the best school systems were Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, and Wisconsin. Florida came in at number 11. States with the worst school systems were New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arizona, Alaska, and Louisiana.
