Schumer, Gillibrand call for federal aid for destroyed downtown Rome
Washington — U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand called Wednesday for federal aid for parts of Upstate New York badly damaged in Tuesday’s storm. The senators are urging Federal Emergency Management Agency to approve any New York state request for a major disaster declaration. The request follows devastating damage from the rain and wind storms that tore through Upstate New York.
U.S. Government Issues Warning About New York Drinking Water
Top U.S. officials have issued a stern warning about drinking water. As someone who grew up in the City of Newburgh, a warning about drinking water is always scary. In May 2016, City of Newburgh residents learned their drinking water supply was contaminated with the man-made chemical Perfluorooctane Sulfonate, which is also called PFOS.
DANCE REVIEW: ‘SMASHED2’ by Gandini Juggling at PS21
The Center for Contemporary Performance, or “PS21,” as it is known, is in Chatham, N.Y., just over the Massachusetts border and a reasonable drive from pretty much anywhere in Berkshire County. The venue had its first season in 2006, and being the proverbial new kid on the block, it is not as well known as some of its Berkshire County counterparts such as Shakespeare & Company and Barrington Stage Company, and certainly not yet in the league of Tanglewood or Jacob’s Pillow. Judging by the vision, energy, and drive of the organization, however, and its desire to truly be contemporary, innovative, and accessible and affordable to all, I am quite confident in the coming years PS21 will be spoken of in the same breath as these other venerable performing-arts institutions in the Berkshires.
