I’ve put a lot of thought into this and I’ve been a scientist and science teacher for 30+ years. Electric vehicles are much better for the environment and are much cheaper to operate than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The main reason is their energy efficiency. There is a motor on each wheel that regenerates the battery when you slow down or go downhill. This allows the electric car to efficiently use the charge to get you from point A to point B.

Employees in the Steamboat Springs School District are getting a raise, after approval of a new compensation package from the Board of Education. Current certified staff receives an increase in salary ranging from 9.4% to 15.3%. The baseline pay for a new, certified staff with a bachelor’s degree will be $53,500. Returning classified staff gets an increase of $4 per hour, up to $24 per hour. That’s an 18.5% increase in wages.

On May 10, Garfield County Sheriff’s Office arrested John Michael Worley for the suspected murder of Wayne Moore. Moore was discovered bleeding and unresponsive in his car on May 11, 2021. Over the past three years, investigators conducted dozens of witness interviews, multiple search warrants and the analyzing of physical evidence, identifying Worley, a 30-year-old man from Parachute, as the primary suspect. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Garfield County sees two drownings in 6 days
Two people have drowned in state parks within Garfield County in the span of six days, according to a news release from the Garfield County Coroner’s office. The first incident occurred May 12, when 26-year-old New Castle resident Diego Gutierrez Caraveo was reported missing while paddleboarding at Rifle Gap State Park.
