Coal Ridge teams shine at Western Slope League Championships
Garfield County track and field athletes made their way to Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction on Friday in hopes of positioning themselves for a spot to make it to the state championships. Coal Ridge High School claimed dual victories as both the women’s and men’s teams took first place in their respective 3A divisions. The women’s team secured a dominant win with 202 points across 19 events, while the Coal Ridge men won with a score of 142 points. The Rifle men’s team placed third with 106 points.

Work continues this week on Hwy 40/Lincoln Ave. in downtown Steamboat Springs and there will be delays, but those should end in time for Memorial Day weekend. Lincoln Ave. eastbound between 3rd and 4th will be down to one lane today, to saw cut for Monday’s concrete work. Project Manager Cole rising says there is rain in the forecast so plans may change. They’re hoping NOT to have a lane closed during rush hour for eastbound traffic on Tuesday or Wednesday, but if the concrete on Monday is not at strength, then the lane will have to stay closed.

Colorado 82 reopened to traffic after mudslide closures
Colorado Highway 82 has been reopened to traffic between Satank Road and Dakota Court, according to a post by the Colorado Department of Transportation. The road between Carbondale and Catherine Store was closed to traffic on Sunday morning due to a debris slide caused by a broken irrigation line, according to Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District.

Arrest of a suspect reopens a Parachute cold case
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Three years to the day of the murder of a Parachute man, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) arrested a suspect. On May 11th, 2021, the GCSO responded to reports of a male who was found bleeding and unresponsive in his car on Highway 6, just west of Parachute. The man was determined deceased on the scene and was later identified as Wayne Moore, a local man who lived in his vehicle in the surrounding areas of Parachute. Initial investigation of the scene by investigators with the GCSO and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) determined that Moore had been the victim of a homicide and was shot multiple times.

On May 11, 2021 the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a male subject who was found bleeding and unresponsive in his car on Highway 6, just west of Parachute, CO. The party was ultimately identified as Wayne Moore, a local man who lived in his vehicle in the Parachute and surrounding areas. He was unfortunately deceased. An initial investigation of the scene by Investigators with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that night, determined Mr. Moore had been the victim of a homicide and had been shot multiple times.
