    Construction worker falls into pit, impales leg on rod

    A construction worker was injured on the job after his leg was impaled by grounding road in Meeker County on Thursday.

    The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 6:45 p.m. reporting the injury at a work site on the 67000 block of County Highway 18 in Ellsworth Township.

    Peter Mollema, 37, of Slayton, was carrying out fiber optic work when he fell into a pit and landed on a grounding rod, impaling his leg.

    Mollema was flown by LifeLink III to Saint Cloud Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. His current condition is unknown.
