If You Plan on Visiting Savannah, Here's 10 Things You Should Know!

If you’re looking to visit a place that not only has a rich well-preserved history, but also good food and entertainment, Savannah, GA is the place for you!
1) Trolley around town
a. Savannah is home to a lot of history and things to see and do. The city is very walkable, but with a lot of highlights, it can be nice to have a means of transportation to get around. Check out the old town trolley tours where the trolley will take you around savannah! You can hop on and off the trolley as much as you want and it’s a great way to make the most of your time while visiting. This will help make sure you see all of the highlights!
2) Bike around the city
a. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend biking as a way to see the city. This was a fun and efficient way to get around Savannah!
3) Forsyth Farmers Market
a. If you are into farmers markets, on Saturday you can expect to find the Forsyth Farmers market located in Forsyth park! This is a great way to support local while also getting a taste of savannah. Take time to enjoy the park and see the vendors!
4) Paid attractions
a. As I mentioned, there are a lot of highlights and history when it comes to savannah. Before visiting, think about what it is you might want to see in detail. Purchase admission to a museum or pay for a guided walking tour. When purchasing admission, make sure it is or isn’t haunted!
5) Savannah squares
a. This next thing to know is also a little fact about Savannah. When Savannah was being built up, General Oglethorpe came up with the idea of laying the city of Savannah out in a grid pattern with Squares. These Squares are open areas made for public use, spaced out throughout this grid pattern. These Squares were originally used to practice and drill for the militia, but today are gathering places of beauty and history. With numerous Squares around the city, they are a great area to check out! They often are well landscaped and have statues that can be seen
6) Pralines
a. When in savannah, you must try pralines! While exploring the city, find a candy shop that sells pralines. Some will offer a free sample or purchase some to take home with you!
7) Spuds at Spanky’s chicken
a. If you are looking for good food when in savannah, check out Spanky’s located on River Street. They have amazing chicken fingers there but do yourself a favor and order the Spanky’s spuds. I had never had these before and was blown away by them! They are sliced potatoes that are hand-battered and deep-fried with Spanky’s original batter.
8) Wet Willie’s for daiquiris
a. If you are visiting in the summer, Savannah can get hot! A great way to take a fun and refreshing break is by visiting Wet Willie’s for an assortment of frozen daiquiris! They do offer sugar-free and nonalcoholic options.
9) Savannah belles ferry
a. Savannah belles ferry is a free ferry boat ride that you can take with a couple of pickup and drop-off points. The ferry stops are Savannah Riverwalk at City Hall, Savannah Riverwalk in Morrell Park near the Savannah Marriott Riverfront, and Savannah Convention Center on Hutchinson Island, next to the Westin. Take the ferry boat for a fun experience and to see a different side of Savannah!
10) River street
a. River Street is a unique area to visit when in Savannah. Here, you will find a mix of old and modern Savannah. With new buildings nestled next to former cotton warehouses, you’ll find numerous shops, galleries, restaurants, pubs, and hotels located on Savannah’s Waterfront. First thing you need to know about Savannah: Good luck getting out of your car and making it 10 feet before the Pan Handlers and Homeless start hitting you up for money. Can’t walk anywhere in the Historic District without them descending on you with a story the eventually ends up with them asking for money. Don’t enable them. They won’t leave you alone.
