Wawasee to Whitko: Tom Edington Interim Superintendent

    2024-05-22

LARWILL-Whitko’s Wednesday Special Session began at 4:32, after the Executive Session. Attended by all school board members, Interim Lead Administrator Kari Walmer, Teresa Carano (who was former superintendent Tim Pivarnik’s secretary), Lynn Leininger, a few parents and teachers, and two gentlemen. School Board President Annette Arnold spoke extremely softly and was difficult to hear over the loud air conditioning in the TAP room (frustrations specifically pointed out at Monday night’s school board meeting as things that should change).

The board voted unanimously and with no public discussion to hire Dr. Tom Edington as Interim Superintendent, and the meeting ended at 4:38. Edington’s companion clarified that Administrator Assistants would be getting paid by Whitko, and then they would handle paying Edington. Some quick research shows that Edington retired in 2020 from Wawasee High School and has served 46 years in public education, with 25 of those as a superintendent and 13 of those years spent at Wawasee (more on Edington here). He served as an Interim Principal at North Judson-San Pierre in 2022 and has been the treasurer of Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana. His first day will be next Wednesday.
