Hooters restaurants, known for its wings and, umm, other things, are abruptly closing across the country.
A "select number" of restaurants will shutdown due to "pressure from current market conditions," the chain said in a statement to USA TODAY this week.
"Ensuring the well-being of our staff is our priority in these rare instances," the statement reads. "This brand of 41 years remains highly resilient and relevant. We look forward to continuing to serve our guests at home, on the go and at our restaurants here in the U.S. and around the globe."
This is the latest string of decades-old chain restaurants to close its doors. Red Lobster recently filed for bankruptcy and TGI Fridays announced earlier this month it would close more than three dozen restaurants, the Melbourne location being one of those.
Are the Hooters in Brevard closing?
As of now the two Hooters locations in Brevard remain open.
Here’s where they are located:
- W NASA Blvd / S Babcock St, Melbourne

Officials did not share what locations would be closed or a timeline of when the closures would take place. It’s been reported at least four closed in Florida, while Texas, Kentucky and Indiana also had closures.
What’s the history of Hooters
The chain is known for bar food like wings as well as for female servers wearing short orange shorts and white tank tops. Its first restaurant opened in Clearwater in 1983.
It grew to nearly 300 restaurants worldwide by the end of 2023. Its frozen food products also are sold in some grocery stores.
The company has experienced a 12% decline since the end of 2018, when there were 333 Hooters locations, per Nations Restaurant News.
