    Hay's homer powers L-S softball to dominant win over Melcher-Dallas

    SULLY — A fast start and a season high in hits led the Lynnville-Sully softball team to a six-inning win over Melcher-Dallas on Monday.

    The Hawks snapped a five-game losing streak with a 12-2 victory over the Saints. The hosts put up a crooked number in four of their six at-bats.

    Jakiera Hay slugged her first homer of the season and second of her varsity career, Kate Harthoorn tallied four hits and the Hawks cranked out five extra-base hits in the non-conference home win.

    Hay finished with three hits, one homer, one double, six RBIs, one run and one steal and Peyton Sharp tallied three hits, one double, two runs, two RBIs and one steal.

    Harthoorn doubled, Alexy Conover finished with two hits, three runs and one RBI and Ava Brummel chipped in two hits, three runs, one walk and one steal.

    Brummel leads the Hawks (9-16) with a .431 batting average and an on-base percentage of .523. Conover has a team-best 34 hits and 50 total bases.

    Alaina Roberts doubled and scored one run, Morgan Jones had one hit and one RBI and Terriyah Carter registered one RBI and one run. Brilynn Tice also scored one run. Roberts now has a team-most 22 runs.

    Conover (6-10) earned the win in the circle after allowing two runs — one earned — on three hits, two walks and one hit batter. She struck out seven in six innings.

    The Hawks scored three runs in the first, two in the second, four in the fourth and two in the fifth. L-S scored one more time in the sixth and the game ended with one out due to the mercy rule. Both teams committed two errors.

    Melcher-Dallas (5-22) was led by Kesley Reed, who finished with two hits and one run.

    Grand View Christian 5, Lynnville-Sully 0

    The Hawks were limited to one hit and committed two errors during a 5-0 non-conference home loss to Grand View Christian on June 27.

    The Thunder scored all five runs in the first two frames, tallied eight hits and did not commit an error in the victory.

    Brummel had the Hawks’ lone hit and walked once, Harthoorn and Carter both drew one walk and Hay stole one base. Brummel leads the Hawks with 11 walks.

    Jolan Fogle (3-6) took the loss in the circle after allowing five runs — three earned — on eight hits, one walk and one hit batter in seven innings. She struck out one.

    Maiah Murphy led the Thunder (16-14) with three hits, three RBIs and one steal.

    Addie Hackett (10-7) earned the pitching win after tossing a complete game and allowing no runs and one hit with five strikeouts.
