Annual Solomon Festival to Bring the Community Together this Weekend
The Solomon Festival Committee is excited to announce the Solomon Festival on Friday, July 19th, and Saturday, July 20th, themed “Aloha Summer – Small Town Paradise.”. The festival begins with a Baby Beauty Contest at 6:00 p.m., followed by a parade at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Family Fun Fest with team competitions, fire performances, and Tropical Karaoke at 8:00 p.m.
Semi fire shuts down US-75 near Melvern
Nobody was hurt after a destructive semi fire in southern Osage County early Friday. The wreck happened on US Highway 75 between the east and west legs of Kansas Highway 278, or about four miles west-northwest of Melvern. Osage County Sheriff Chris Wells tells KVOE News the semi was completely engulfed as authorities arrived shortly after 7 am. The semi was hauling about 3,500 gallons of diesel fuel when a tire blowout ruptured the tank. About 2,500 gallons were saved.

Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan held a ribbon cutting for new Early Learning Center
MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - The Boys and Girls Club of Manhattan held a ribbon cutting today for its new Early Learning Center. The new center will serve kids from 6 weeks to 5 years old. This adds to the other 13 locations across Manhattan and Wamego, which serve elementary to 18-year-olds. There are 9 classrooms and the club is licensed for 156 kids who will participate in fun activities to prepare them for school. Club members said this facility is crucial to the region.

Lyon County Commission approves disaster donation MOUs, final Ignite Emporia allocation
Lyon County now has two memorandums of understanding in place to handle donations and related information in cases of disasters. As part of the County Commission’s action session Thursday, Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell presented the idea for the county to partner with the Emporia Community Foundation and the United Way of the Flint Hills. MEDIA RELEASE – Recovered Stolen Vehicle & Warrant Arrests
On Thursday morning, July 18, 2024, at 6:41 AM, a law enforcement officer with the Pittsburg Police Department observed a vehicle that was not displaying any state issued license plates turn onto Amber Drive. The Officer turned his patrol vehicle around to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle and the vehicle pulled into the driveway of 1011 Amber Drive. The driver exited the vehicle and quickly entered the residence and closed the door behind him. Further investigation into the vehicle revealed it had been reported stolen out of Joplin, Missouri.
