Charles A. Barragato leads the tax practice in BDO’s Melville office and serves as the firm’s East regional co-leader for private client services. The accounting professional has more than three decades of experience providing sophisticated tax planning and advisory services to corporations, family offices, executives and other high-net-worth individuals.

Barragato is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and he is a past president of the latter’s Suffolk chapter and former chairman of its general taxation committee. The chapter presented Barragato with its Distinguished Service Award in recognition of outstanding service to this organization. In addition, he serves on the board of governors of Nissequogue Golf Club.

The CPA Journal, The Tax Adviser and California CPA Magazine have published articles by Barragato, who has also provided commentary on tax and accounting issues to The Journal of Taxation, Newsday, TheStreet.com and The Wall Street Journal.

Barragato is a member of the faculty at the Stony Brook University College of Business. He has lectured extensively before professional groups and received the Foundation for Accounting Education’s Outstanding Discussion Leader Award, as well as the NYSSCPA’s coveted Dr. Emanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award.

Barragato earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in taxation from the Long Island University-Post School of Professional Accountancy. He also holds a Ph.D. in business (with a concentration in accounting) from the CUNY Graduate Center-Baruch College.
