(6/9/24) Following a delay due to the reconfiguration of the track and grounds, promoter Robby Bohm and his staff, welcomed karters to the speedway Sunday for an action packed afternoon of racing. Claiming feature wins were Jax Rich (Baby Champ), Levi Cleary (Rookie), Chase Griffin (Jr.3), Hudson Seckler (Jr. Wing), Billy Eaton (Clone 360), and Greysyn “Top Gun” Lawrence took the $300 to win featured race of the day in the Jr.1 class.

(Springfield-jm) – The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is reminding parents and caregivers of the importance of always supervising children when they are in or near water to avoid the tragedy of accidental drowning deaths. In 2023, 20 Illinois children lost their lives to accidental drowning, including eight in pools, four in lakes and two in ponds. Thirteen of the children were ages 5 and younger; including six of the children who drowned in pools.
'Grocery Grab' a success
Certain shoppers at Dave’s Supermarket Friday morning weren’t shopping at your average pace. They were racing through the store. It was part of the 2024 Grocery Grab sponsored by the Fairbury Rotary Club, which is being considered a success. The fundraiser benefitted the club which has been active with charitable giving for a number of years along with scholarships for local students.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The next stop in my tri-county farmer interview series brought me to Garden Gate Farm in Fairbury, Illinois, to talk to the Rinkenberger family. On the way up the driveway, I smelled freshly blooming lilacs, saw a handful of pigs in their pen, witnessed many vegetable transplants ready to plant, and heard cows, chickens, and even peacocks! I was greeted by a large white Great Pyrenees named Libby, who vetted me thoroughly before allowing me to pet her.

Cleanup Day set for June 15 in Gibson
GIBSON CITY — Gibson City Cleanup Day is set for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 15, next to Strebeck Salvage on Illinois 9 behind Gibson City Redi-Mix. Gibson City residents can dispose of items there at that time. No electronics or hazardous waste — including paint, oils and chemicals — will be accepted. Tires for cars and pickup trucks will be accepted during the event at Hull Family Tire, located one mile west of town on Illinois 9, at a discount rate of $1 per tire.

‘Doc’ touched many lives as community pillar
GIBSON CITY — Gibson City lost a pillar of the community in May with the death of Dr. James “Doc” Meyer, at age 90. A veterinarian for 53 years in Gibson City, Dr. Meyer was also a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ducks Unl imited, Pheasants Forever and the Gibson City Rotary Club. He never sought the spotlight, but his dedication to his community and generous nature touched many lives in the area, his friends and colleagues said.
