A manhunt is underway for a convicted felon accused in the shooting death of 23-year-old Melvindale police officer Mohamed Said.

Said was shot and killed Sunday morning at Oakwood and Dix Road.

The community is reeling over the loss of Said, who was a beloved member of the Melvindale community. In high school, he competed with the soccer team at Melvindale High School Cardinals and was described by friends as a "star."

Khalil Refai, a city council member in Hamtramck and former Hamtramck Police chaplain, posted on Facebook that he had known Said for over 10 years. He said he was "deeply saddened" by his death, noting that he was respectful, smart and dedicated to his community.

    Armed and dangerous

Lopez remains at large, Melvindale police said on Sunday, warning that he is armed and dangerous. He was last seen shirtless and on a bike. Michigan State Police and Dearborn Police Department are both assisting with the manhunt.

Lopez has a criminal record including resisting arrest and carjacking.
