Local university names 'transformative leader' as new president
LeMoyne-Owen College has named its new leader.<\p> Christopher B. Davis, D.Min., who has served as interim president since July 2023, will step into the role permanently today, July 8, the college announced.<\p>

William Jones IV has been named president of Arkansas-based jewelry business Sissy's Log Cabin. He's taking over from Lamar McCubbin, who served as president at Sissy's for 11 years. <\p> Sissy's Log Cabin was founded in 1970 by Sissy Jones, Williams Jones' grandmother. She started by selling Kirby vacuums out of her home and later transitioned into antiques. She later rented an old log cabin in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and, thus, a brand was set. <\p>

Legal decision removes potential block to $100M Downtown project
A request for temporary injunction challenging the $100 million construction of the Brooks Museum of Art Downtown was denied on June 28. The court order removes a potential legal hurdle for the organization that had been lingering since last summer.<\p> In 2017, the Brooks Museum first announced its intention to move from its longtime home in Overton Park to build a new facility on Front Street between Union and Monroe Avenues. Over the following years, the Brooks signed a development agreement with the City of Memphis, selected architects, finalized the design, got to work demolishing the fire station and parking garage that stood there, and began construction. Grinder, Taber & Grinder Inc. is the GC leading the project.<\p>
